Google partners with Agile Robots, growing its AI robotics footprint

Google As it turns to robotics as an important bet for artificial intelligence, it adds another robotics partnership to its generation.

Agile Robots develops smart, sensor-based robotic arms and humanoid robots. The company announced that it is partnering with Google DeepMind to integrate Gemini Robotics core models with Agile Robots hardware.

“The partnership was built on the belief that applying artificial intelligence to the physical world will be transformative,” Tuesday’s blog post states. “By combining Agile Robots’ hardware developed in Germany and other AI robotics solutions with Google DeepMind’s Gemini Robotics core models, the two teams will improve performance through robot deployment, data collection, model training, and iteration.”

The new partnership means Google will get real-world distribution data as it sees robotics as one of the biggest use cases of AI and competes with companies like Amazon And Tesla’s. This also shows that the company is making various robotics partnerships as it turns to manufacturing as its main use case.

The blog post notes that Munich-based Agile Robots already has more than 20,000 deployed robotic systems worldwide and will integrate Google’s technology into existing industrial robots at scale. The partnership will focus primarily on “high-value industrial” use cases such as manufacturing tasks.

“This research partnership is an important step in bringing the impact of AI to the real world,” Google DeepMind Senior Director and Head of Robotics Carolina Parada said in a blog post on Tuesday, adding that Agile Robots will help Google develop “more advanced AI models for the next generation of robots.”
