The long-awaited meeting between President Donald Trump and Chinese President Xi Jinping will take place in Beijing on May 14 and 15, the White House said Wednesday.

Trump and First Lady Melania Trump will also host Xi and Madam Peng Liyuan for a “reciprocal visit” in Washington, D.C., at a date to be announced later this year, White House press secretary Karoline Leavitt told reporters at a briefing.

The announcement means the China summit, which was expected to take place in late March and early April, will be postponed by about six weeks.

However, Trump said in mid-March that the United States wanted to postpone this meeting “by a month or so” due to the Iran war.

One Real Social post After Wednesday’s press conference, Trump said U.S. representatives “have completed preparations for these Historic Visits.”

“I look forward to spending time with President Xi at what I am sure is a monumental event,” he said in his post.

Although the Trump administration announced that it expected the war, which started with the US and Israel attacking Iran on February 28, to last approximately five weeks, some officials suggested different dates.

Asked Wednesday whether the new schedule for Trump’s trip to China meant the U.S. expected the war to end by mid-May, Leavitt said: “We’ve always predicted about four to six weeks, so you can do the math on that.”
