Surya Tilak is a special ritual performed on Ram Navami, when the sunlight at noon is directed precisely to touch the forehead of the Ram Lalla idol. A system of mirrors and lenses carefully designed by Indian scientists directs sunlight into the sacred chamber at exactly 12:00.
The result is a bright, shiny tilak on the forehead of the deity. This moment lasts a few minutes but attracts great attention every year. For those who cannot enter the temple grounds, live visuals are broadcast on screens and news channels across Ayodhya.
Ram Mandir temple trust prepares for heavy rush
According to reports; Shri Ram Janmabhoomi Teertha Kshetra Foundation, Gopal Rao said that Ram Navami festivities have already started in Ayodhya city. More than one lakh devotees visit the temple to see Ram Lalla. According to him, Surya tilak will coincide with the noon aarti which will take place at 12 pm. The sun’s rays will remain on the forehead for about four minutes so that people can catch a glimpse of Surya Tilak.
To manage the crowds, the temple administration has taken many steps. Screens have been placed all over the city so that devotees can watch the ceremonies without crowding the sanctum. VIP darshan has been suspended to ensure equal access to all visitors.
The temple will remain open from early morning until late at night as devotees queue for darshan.

Ram Navami marks the birth of Lord Shri Ram, who is believed to have been born in Ayodhya to King Dashrath and Queen Kaushalya. Devotees see it as a symbol of truth, courage and righteousness.
