Santanu Hazarika’s First Ever Mehendi Art Design For Rikhiram Sharma

Known for his striking artworks, immersive murals, and collaborations between fashion and music, multidisciplinary visual artist Santanu Hazarika constantly pushes creative boundaries with his distinctive visual language. From large-scale installations to experimental digital art, Santanu has gained a reputation for blending contemporary aesthetics with cultural narratives. First, he has now moved beyond his usual mediums to create a mehendi design that marks an unconventional and innovative extension of his practice.
Recently, as part of his ongoing Mental Health India Tour, the famous music icon created a mehendi design for famous sitarist Rishab Rikhiram Sharma. In the design, symbolic elements such as trishul, snake, third eye and crescent are reinterpreted with Santanu’s unique visual style. Marking his first exploration of Mahdi as a medium, the work transforms his contemporary aesthetic into a traditional format.
The design, executed by mehendi artist Sonam Istry, was unveiled during Rishab’s performance in Mumbai. The collaboration also includes original artwork by Santanu, reimagining the musician through a mythological and modern lens.
This was shared by both Santanu and Rishab on social media platforms. “Stop playing with us, we are on another level,” Rishab said. Santanu described the work as “Tripurantaka. Made a small mehendi design (a first for me) inspired by the iconography and elements of Mahadev.”
