Majority of Americans oppose US military strikes on Iran, polls show

Almost a month after the United States and Israel launched a military strike on Iran, a series of new national polls show that most Americans view the military strikes negatively.
But polls indicate that a wide partisan divide remains between Democrats and Republicans over ongoing conflicts in the volatile Middle East.
Forty-two percent of voters support current U.S. military action against Iran and 58 percent oppose it, according to Fox News’ national poll conducted last Friday through Monday (March 20-23) and released Wednesday; Approximately 4 in 10 people strongly oppose this.
This is a change from a previous poll conducted by Fox News between February 28 and March 2, in which those questioned were evenly split on support for strikes.

The Fox News poll isn’t the only one pointing to underwater support for the war.

And one Pew Research Center The survey, conducted between March 16 and 22, found that 61 percent of respondents disapproved of President Donald Trump’s handling of the conflict with Iran, while 37 percent approved.
Military strikes by the United States and Israel resulted in the deaths of Iran’s supreme leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei and other senior officials and the destruction of much of the country’s army.
However, Iran retaliated with attacks on Israel and many other neighbors in the region.

Iran has targeted energy facilities with missile and drone attacks in a number of Persian Gulf countries. It also made the Strait of Hormuz virtually impassable to commercial shipping; shut down nearly 20% of the world’s oil supply, resulting in skyrocketing fuel prices in the United States and around the world.
Trump said on Thursday that Iran was “begging for a deal” to end the war.

While many Democratic political leaders have criticized Trump’s handling of the conflict, most Republicans side with the president.
This is reflected in the views of Democratic and Republican voters.

The partisan divide was clear in the Fox News poll.
More than three-quarters of Republicans (77%) supported the effort, along with 12% of Democrats and 28% of independents. Support within the GOP ranged from 90% among MAGA supporters to 52% among non-MAGA Republicans.
The gap was just as large in other polls, including the Quinnipiac poll; 86 percent of Republicans supported military action, compared to 28 percent of independents and just five percent of Democrats.
