The Mustang Just Dusted The Corvette ZR1’s Nürburgring Time

The Nürburgring leaderboard may have been changed again. If the reports are true, Ford is definitely back with an updated version of the Mustang GTD.
After Chevrolet’s Corvette ZR1 and ZR1X models both unseated the GTD as the fastest American car at the Nordschleife last year, Ford hinted it wasn’t done. Now new evidence published online suggests the Blue Oval reclaimed the crown by a significant margin.
A video circulating around StatesideSupercars claims that a revised Ford Mustang GTD lapped the Nürburgring in 6:41.74, more than 10 seconds faster than the car’s previously recorded time. While Ford hasn’t officially confirmed this figure yet, even a small margin of error would put the GTD comfortably ahead of both Corvette versions.
Reports on the field suggest the notary was present, which suggests this was a proper lap record attempt and not just midweek touristenfahrten noodle.

The video shows two cars with revised aerodynamic elements, including rear aero discs, and the possibility of using higher performance fuel to create extra compression. The blue vehicle is said to be exclusive to North America, while the black trim is said to be European flavored.

At the same time, production is expected to remain under 2,000 cars, making it one of the most exclusive Mustangs ever produced. Even though the price tag is over $300,000, demand is reportedly strong enough that Ford wants to reopen its order books.
