Special rituals and prayers marked the auspicious festival of ‘Sri Rama Navami’, celebrated at various temples in Tirupati on Friday, March 27.
The festivities began at the age-old Sri Kodandarama Swamy temple, owned by Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanams (TTD) and located in the heart of Tirupati, which is considered equal in terms of reverence to those at Bhadrachalam and Vontimitta.
While the temple recently witnessed the nine-day annual Brahmotsavam, Rama Navami festivities follow closely behind.
The three-day event includes Sri Rama Navami, Sita Rama Kalyanam and Srirama Pattabhishekam, i.e. Lord Rama’s Jayanti, his divine wedding with Sita and his coronation as emperor, celebrated on March 27, 28 and 29 respectively.
The event was also observed magnificently at various other temples. As is the practice observed for the last three decades, devotees of the Uttaradhi Mutt pulled a mini chariot carrying idols of Rama, Sita, Lakshmana and Hanuman from its premises on Mitta Street around the Kodandarama temple precinct.
