Yemen’s Iran-backed Houthi rebels have confirmed that they have launched an attack on Israel for the first time during the current Israeli-US war against Iran.
This marks their entry into conflict and raises the possibility of a wider regional conflict, as well as a growing threat to shipping in the region.
Israel had previously announced that it was trying to block a missile coming from Yemen.
The group stated that the attack with the missile rain came after targeting the infrastructures in Iran, Lebanon, Iraq and Palestinian territories, and said that its operations will continue until the ‘attack’ on all fronts ends.
On Friday, the Houthis’ military spokesman, Brigadier General Saree, released a pre-recorded statement outlining the various ways the rebels could join the war on Iran’s behalf.
“We confirm that our fingers remain on the trigger for direct military intervention in any of the following situations,” Saree said. These included ‘continued escalation against the Islamic Republic and the Axis of Jihad and Resistance as required by military operations’.
The group has now said it will remain in the conflict until all its objectives are achieved.
