Dr NTRUHS unveils initiatives to enhance medical research and student welfare

Dr. NTR University of Health Sciences (Dr NTRUHS) Vice-Chancellor P. Chandrasekhar said special funds have been allocated to promote research and sports in government medical colleges.
Addressing the media at the university campus in Vijayawada on Monday, March 30, 2026, Dr. These initiatives have been launched to improve standards in medical education, Chandrasekhar said. He said every government medical college will get ₹10 lakh as grant every year to develop infrastructure and organize Inter-University/State/national tournaments.
He also said that the university will establish a Disease Monitoring and Decision Support Center (DMDC) within the scope of the Integrated Disease Surveillance Program (IDSP).
The center will institutionalize advanced predictive modeling and scenario simulations. Designates DMDC as a State-level technical institution under the administrative control of the Department of Health, Medical and Family Welfare with an estimated expenditure of ₹ 5.73 crore. Additionally, Dr. Chandrasekhar, Dr. While naming the NTR University of Health Sciences as the main academic host institution, he said it has enabled the creation of 13 posts covering technical, analytical and program management roles.
He said that these decisions were taken at the university’s 244th board meeting held on March 17. He stated that a request was made to allocate approximately 25 acres of land to the university in Amaravati and that the Capital Region Development Authority was also considering this issue.
He said the university also plans to sign an agreement with the national health university Saw Swee Hock School of Public Health in Singapore.
Additionally, the VC announced that to promote research among students, the university will provide scholarships of ₹30,000 (₹5,000 per month for six months) to at least 1,000 students every year. Currently, only 500 undergraduate medical students receive ₹10,000.
Over the next three years, 3,000 students will participate in short-term research projects. This will include students from allopathy, AYUSH, paramedical and other medical courses, he said, adding that the grant amount has been increased from ₹ 2 lakh to ₹ 5 lakh per person depending on the importance of the research.
Faculty Research Grants were also approved for 200 faculty members working at affiliated colleges. He said financial assistance of ₹2-₹5 lakh will be provided to them.
