Man Gets Life Term For Killing Father Over Property Dispute In Nellore

A court in SPS Nellore district sentenced a man to life imprisonment for murdering his father over a property dispute.
5. Additional District Judge N. Saraswati delivered his verdict on Tuesday, convicting 35-year-old Potluri Subrahmanyam under Article 103(1) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita. The court also imposed a fine of ₹5,000 along with additional simple imprisonment for five months in case of default.
The incident took place on December 28, 2024, at Thallamitta Tribal Colony in Yellayapalem village under Kodavalur police station limits. The defendant’s pressure on his father to transfer a house to his name often led to arguments. It was claimed that he attacked his father with an ax during the argument, killed him at the scene, and ran away after threatening his relative who tried to intervene.
District police chief Ajitha Vejendla said the conviction was secured through the effective implementation of the Court Monitoring System, close monitoring of the case, timely presentation of evidence and coordination with the prosecution.
While CI A. Surendra Babu conducted the investigation, Public Prosecutor Ajay Prem Kumar Lam presided over the case.
Police said strict action would be taken in cases of violence arising from domestic disputes.
Man who attempted to attack a child in Prakasam was sentenced to 10 years in prison
A 40-year-old man was sentenced to 10 years in prison and a fine of ₹5,000 by a POCSO court in Ongole for attempting to sexually assault a five-year-old girl. The victim will receive compensation of INR 75,000 through the District Legal Services Authority.
The incident took place on July 24, 2022, in a village in Veligandla mandal, when the boy’s parents went out. Allegedly, the suspect tricked the girl into a house and attempted to attack her, but escaped after being noticed by her relatives. A case was registered at Veligandla police station.
Police said the accused was arrested after investigation led by DSP A. Pallapraju.
Under the supervision of District SP V. Harshavardhan Raju, a POCSO monitoring team ensured timely presentation of witnesses. Special public prosecutor Gottipati Srinivas Rao handled the case.
Police said strict action would be taken against criminals who target children and urged parents to be careful.
Farmer found dead in Vizianagaram
A 60-year-old farmer was found dead under suspicious circumstances at Mamidipalli in Santhakaviti mandal of Vizianagaram district.
The deceased was identified as Jogulu. Locals said his half-burned body was found on the outskirts of the village.
The police registered the incident and launched an investigation.
Woman suspected of suicide attempt died, two children were injured
A woman who attempted suspected suicide on the railway line in Kambakaya locality of Narasannapeta mandal of Srikakulam district lost her life and her two children were seriously injured.
According to the information obtained, the woman died at the scene, while the injured children were taken to the hospital for treatment.
Police have launched an investigation into the incident and are trying to identify the victims.
2 students arrested in the suicide of a female student
Two students, Bellani Ratlu (21) and Burugupalli Vijaya Saradhi (21), were arrested in Eluru for allegedly abetting the suicide of a 20-year-old B.Pharmacy student by threatening to leak her private chats, police said on Tuesday.
The accused, natives of Jagannadhapuram village in Pedavegi mandal and Mysannagudem village in Jangareddygudem mandal respectively, have been booked in the case registered by the Eluru Three Towns police.
The victim died on March 25. The case was initially recorded as a suspicious death.
During the investigation, police found that the victim and the two defendants had been classmates since first year and were in regular contact via phone calls, WhatsApp and Instagram. Some personal conversations between the victim and Vijaya Saradhi were recorded by him.
Police said that later a disagreement arose between them and the victim moved away from him. It was alleged that on March 24, the defendant spoke to her in offensive language and humiliated her. He complained to a university lecturer, who assured him that the matter would be handled by the administration.
He returned to the hostel after attending a farewell program on the evening of March 25. Ratlu allegedly called him and demanded that he withdraw his complaint and threatened to share their private conversations with his friends and family members.
Police said the victim notified his father and family, who said they would take him home. He died because he was afraid that the conversations would be revealed.
Eluru DSP S. Sravan Kumar said the investigation amounted to abetment and two students were subsequently arrested.
Health inspector caught accepting ₹15,000 bribe in Rajamahendravaram
Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) officials caught sanitary inspector Vangala Rajendra Prasad of Rajamahendravaram Municipal Corporation red-handed while accepting a bribe of ₹15,000 from a trader on Tuesday.
According to ACB officials, trader Surampudi Aravind Swamy had started a clothing business and had applied to the authority for a trade licence. The sanitary inspector allegedly demanded ₹20,000 to process the licence.
The trader initially paid ₹5,000 and the official asked him to pay the remaining amount within two days. The trader then approached ACB and ACB laid a trap and caught the official taking the bribe.
The accused has been arrested and will be produced before the ACB court in Rajamahendravaram.
Fraudsters defrauded bank of Rs 5.28 crore in Vijayawada
The fraudsters allegedly duped Axis Bank of Rs 5.28 crore by opening accounts using fake documents in the city and withdrawing money through credit cards.
According to sources, the accused opened accounts at three branches located at Eluru Road, Gunadala and Benz Circle by submitting fake documents, including fake Aadhaar cards, pay slips and address proofs.
The scam came to light after bank officials filed a complaint with the cyber police and irregularities were detected.
Police have registered a case and are trying to identify and trace the accused.
