Naidu Asserts Amaravati’s Status as Sole Capital of State

Vinjamur (Andhra Pradesh): Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu on Wednesday said Amaravati will remain the sole capital of the state and cannot be moved.
Speaking at a public meeting after participating in the ‘Pedala Sevalo’ (service to the poor) program in Nellore district, he said that the Assembly had passed a resolution seeking legal status for Amaravati.
Referring to the bill submitted to Parliament to give legal status to the capital, Naidu said, “Not even a centimeter of Amaravati can be moved. Amaravati is the only capital of Andhra Pradesh.”
He alleged that the erstwhile YSRCP regime harmed the state through the three-capital approach between 2019 and 2024, leading to instability and uncertainty.
Highlighting the development, the chief minister appreciated public participation in the restoration of Vinjamur Old Tank and said that the work has started at Rs 70 lakh.
Naidu announced that water will be diverted from Somasila canal to the tank at a cost of Rs 34 billion and assured completion of the work by October.
He noted that improving water availability will improve livelihoods, noting that reservoirs such as Somasila and Kandaleru hold about 60 percent water even during summer months.
Earlier, the prime minister inspected the defense products stand of the Defense Research and Development Organization (DRDO) set up at the site and inspected the exhibits on display.
The TDP chief visited stalls displaying crops like oil palm, jowar and papaya grown through micro irrigation and interacted with farmers on best practices.
While farmers explained the use of modern equipment, including drones, in agriculture, Naidu also interacted with dairy farmers.
