Oracle layoffs in Kansas City could have ‘double impact,’ economist says

Hundreds of workers in the Kansas City area may soon be out of a job after more than 500 layoffs linked to Oracle Corporation’s local operations were confirmed. The company is laying off 539 positions; The layoffs are expected to be permanent and spread across approximately 150 different jobs, primarily in software development, management and customer service. The cuts continue a trend that has been going on for years after Oracle acquired Cerner Corporation, which once employed about 15,000 workers in Kansas City. That number is now down to an estimated 6,500.
