Leavitt slams Politico over report previewing Trump’s speech on Iran

White House press secretary Karoline Leavitt attacked Politico on social media Wednesday over a report published about President Donald Trump’s address to the nation about the war in Iran.

Leavitt told

Politico articleThe headline, “‘I came, I saw, I conquered:’ Trump prepares to declare victory in Iran in first speech,” was published Wednesday, before Trump’s speech. Politico did not immediately respond to Fox News Digital’s request for comment.

Leavitt addressed several media outlets in early March about coverage of the war in Iran, including CNN.

The press secretary strongly denied a CNN report that Trump’s national security team was unprepared for the possibility of Iran taking action to close the Strait of Hormuz following US attacks.

“This story is 100% FAKE NEWS,” Leavitt wrote in xHe accused CNN of relying on anonymous sources and advocating that the administration plan for such a scenario.

Leavitt said the Pentagon had been planning for decades for the possibility of Iran closing the strait and that the threat was part of the administration’s plan before Operation Epic Rage began.

“The idea that Chairman Cain and Secretary Hegseth were not prepared for this possibility is RATIONAL,” he continued.

Trump told Americans on Wednesday night that after the 32-day Epic Operation Rage, Iran was “essentially no longer a threat” and was nearing completion.

The president also acknowledged that gas prices have increased since the start of the war and expressed confidence that these increases were “short-term.”
