Polar vortex collapse forecast: Polar vortex collapse forecast for U.S., Canada: Heavy snowfall, severe tornado alert, thunderstorm warning issued for Easter Saturday

The polar vortex collapse forecast for North America and Canada indicates that weather conditions in the eastern parts of the United States and Canada will be severely affected. As the Stratospheric Polar Vortex enters its final phase of the season, the remaining Polar vortex becomes active and hovers over eastern parts of North America and Canada. This will lead to lower normal temperatures and end-of-season snowfall.

Meanwhile, the serious winter storm that began in the Northern Plains on Good Friday is widening and intensifying on Easter Saturday. Heavy snowfall and devastating ice will make for treacherous travel, according to the NWS Weather Prediction Center.

The weather department has predicted severe winter weather will continue as heavy snow, sleet and freezing temperatures are expected in the Minnesota Dakotas on Saturday.

High winds and heavy snowfall reduced visibility, making road travel dangerous.
Freezing rain will hit areas in eastern Minnesota, northern Wisconsin and northern Michigan. Ice storms can cause tree damage and power outages in these areas.
A severe tornado and storm warning has been issued for parts of Arkansas to southeastern Oklahoma. However, strong to locally damaging winds remain possible. No downward tracking is expected.
