Homicide detectives have charged a 67-year-old man with murder after a woman’s body was found in Melbourne’s south-west on Saturday afternoon.
Victoria Police said the 53-year-old woman was reported missing on Thursday before an investigation was carried out.
“Investigations by local police and detectives confirmed that the Dandenong woman had not contacted her family as expected and the circumstances were deemed suspicious,” police said.
The Missing Persons Squad found the body of a woman in Little River at the intersection of Little River Road and the Princes Highway on Saturday. A formal identification process has not yet been conducted, but police believe it belongs to the missing woman.
As part of their investigation, a Patterson Lakes man was arrested as he tried to board an international flight at Melbourne Airport on Friday, police said.
The detained person is expected to appear in the bail and detention court on Sunday.
