TVK chief Vijay declares two pending criminal cases in fresh election affidavit

Chennai: During investigations, TVK chief Vijay, who had earlier filed an election affidavit with no criminal case pending, filed two pending FIRs in a fresh affidavit filed before the returning officer for the upcoming Tamil Nadu Assembly elections on April 23.

According to sources, the new declaration, which was notarized on April 3, was submitted by a representative on April 4. It lists two cases in Chennai and Madurai that were not included in the earlier document notarized on March 30.

In the latest filing, the actor filed FIR number 74 of 2026 registered at K5 Peravallur Police Station in Chennai for allegedly causing public nuisance during the election campaign on March 30. In his statement, Vijay stated that he became aware of this case on April 2 through social media.

A second FIR, number 2025, from Koodakovil Police Station in Madurai district, involves a complaint regarding an incident that took place on August 21, 2025, during a party conference. The complainant alleged that he was pushed and injured by the bouncers while trying to approach the leader during the ramp walk, but Vijay stated that he is yet to receive an official summons in the matter.

While the criminal record section showed changes, the financial statements remained largely consistent across both applications.

Vijay’s movable assets are valued at around Rs 410.59 billion in the new declaration, compared to Rs 404.58 billion announced earlier. This includes silver items worth Rs 15 lakh and 883 grams of gold jewelery worth over Rs 1.20 crore.
The total current market value of its properties, including commercial and residential buildings in places like Neelankarai and Saligramam, is estimated at 220.15 billion rupees. The TVK leader announced a total revenue of 184.53 billion rupees for the financial year 2024-2025. It also listed pending income tax claims totaling around Rs 3.44 crore over multiple assessment years, which are currently under appeal.

Vijay is contesting elections from Perambur and Tiruchirapalli East Assembly constituencies. He filed his first nomination for the Perambur Assembly constituency on March 30. He later filed his candidacy for Trichy East constituency on 2 April.

The new affidavit filed in Perambur on April 4 was a supplementary affidavit aimed at removing inconsistencies between the first Perambur declaration and the affidavit filed later in East Tiruchirapalli. The revised application ensures that the TVK chief remains in compliance with Election Commission norms regarding disclosure of all ongoing criminal investigations.
