Panic as ‘explosives found’ near gas pipeline in ‘bomb plot’ drama | World | News

Explosives were reportedly found near a gas pipeline in Hungary. Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban called an emergency meeting of the National Defense Council.

Two backpacks full of explosives and detonators were discovered in the village of Tresnjevac, close to the Serbian border, 19 kilometers away from the TurkStream pipeline, which carries Russian oil to Hungary.

Serbian president and Orban ally Alexander Vucic said in a post on Instagram: “Our units found an explosive with destructive power. I told Prime Minister Orban that we will keep him updated on the investigation.”

However, the Hungarian opposition leader accused Orban of “panic propaganda” organized by “Russian advisors” after his party fell behind in opinion polls ahead of next week’s elections. The discovery comes days after security experts warned Hungary might be carrying out a “false flag” operation. They said it would be on Ukraine to drum up sympathy for Orban’s party or give it an excuse to declare an emergency and cancel the election.

A false flag operation is a harmful, often militant, event or action designed to appear as if it is being committed by someone other than the person or group responsible.

Balint Pasztor, president of the Hungarian Association of Vojvodina and another key Orban ally, said on Facebook: “If the investigation proves that we were not the primary target, but that we were Hungary’s supply lines, then this would make it even clearer: The terrorist attack was planned with the aim of overthrowing Viktor Orban.”

Putin’s ally Orban has resisted calls to halt Russian gas imports since the invasion of Ukraine. Hungary receives five to eight billion cubic meters of Russian gas annually through the pipeline.

Orban alleges that a European alliance is conspiring to prevent Hungary from receiving Russian fuel and impose a “puppet” prime minister of their choice in upcoming elections.

The Prime Minister also claims that Ukraine is blocking oil from Hungary and that no Russian oil has arrived through the Druzhba pipeline since January.

The pipeline passes through Ukraine and it is stated that the pipeline was damaged in the Russian attack and will be operational again in mid-April.
