Kerala Assembly polls 2026: Open campaign will end at 6 pm today
Chief Electoral Officer (Kerala) Rathan U. Kelkar said that open campaigning for the April 9 Assembly elections will end at 6 pm on Tuesday.
Mr Kelkar said his office had initiated measures to ensure strict implementation of the 48-hour silence period in the state. Section 126 of the Representation of the People Act 1951 deals with ‘Prohibition of public meetings during the period of forty-eight hours ending with the time fixed for the conclusion of the ballot’.
Organizing or holding election-related public meetings or marches during this period; It is prohibited to present the election issue through cinema, television or similar media, or to disseminate the election issue by organizing music concerts, theatrical performances or other entertainment.
Publication of political advertisements in newspapers on election day and the day before the election requires the permission of the Media Certification and Monitoring Committee (MCMC).
