Trump suspends Iran attack for two weeks, subject to Hormuz Strait opening

President Donald Trump said Tuesday he has agreed to suspend planned attacks on Iran’s infrastructure for two weeks.

He said the move was “conditional on the Islamic Republic of Iran’s acceptance of the COMPLETE, IMMEDIATE and SAFE OPENING of the Strait of Hormuz.” He wrote at Truth Social.

The announcement came less than two hours before a deadline for Iran to strike a deal that includes opening the Strait of Hormuz or face major attacks on its civilian infrastructure.

Trump wrote that he made his decision “based on his discussions with Pakistani Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and Field Marshal Asim Munir.”

“This will be a bilateral ceasefire!” Trump announced.

ET deadline set on Sunday after Trump demanded Iran to “Open the Damn Strait” in an aggressive social media post, causing panic in the United States and the world.

Trump escalated the issue dramatically in another Truth Social post on Tuesday morning: “An entire civilization will die tonight and never be brought back. I don’t want it to happen, but it probably will.”

Earlier Tuesday afternoon, Sharif asked Trump to extend the deadline for Iran by two weeks. He also asked the Iranian leadership to agree to open the strait for two weeks “as a sign of goodwill.”
