The world breathed a sigh of relief last night when Donald Trump agreed to a two-week ceasefire with Iran, hours before threatening to destroy ‘an entire civilisation’.

If the US President does not agree to open the Strait of Hormuz by 20:00 EST (01:00 BST), Iran is hours away from launching a devastating attack on its bridges and power plants.

Hopes of a potential deal were first raised around 8:15 p.m. after the Pakistani Prime Minister, who is a mediator between the two warring countries, called on President Trump to extend the upcoming deadline.

“Diplomatic efforts towards a peaceful resolution of the ongoing war in the Middle East are progressing steadily, strongly and strongly,” Shehbaz Sharif wrote while calling for a two-week ceasefire between all parties on X.

Within an hour, both Trump and Tehran were aware of the proposal and engaged in discussions.

The US President claimed both sides were in ‘heated negotiations’ but refused to say how they were going, while Iran was said to be ‘positively considering’ the request.

Even as the clock approached 1 a.m., missiles continued to rain down on the Middle East, while Israel, the UAE and Qatar had to block numerous UAVs heading towards cities within their borders.

Meanwhile, US bombers were also on the move, as a plane loaded with ammunition had previously been seen flying from RAF Fairford in Gloucestershire and heading towards Iran on another bombing operation.

Shortly before 10 p.m., CNN reported, citing a regional source, that ‘good news from both sides is expected soon,’ adding that the deal was expected to be completed Tuesday night.

‘This will be a bilateral ceasefire! The reason we do this is because we have already achieved and exceeded all Military objectives and are well ahead of a definitive Agreement on Long Term PEACE with Iran and PEACE in the Middle East.

‘We have received a 10-point offer from Iran and we believe this is a viable basis for negotiation. Agreement has been reached between the United States and Iran on nearly all points of past contention, but a two-week period will allow the Agreement to be finalized and completed.’

Tehran officials told the New York Times that Iran accepted the ceasefire offer after intense diplomatic efforts by Pakistan and a last-minute intervention by China.

They said the ceasefire was approved by Supreme Leader Ayatollah Mojtaba Khamenei and they agreed to reopen the Bosphorus. In the narrow mouth of the Persian Gulf under the coordination of his army for the next two weeks.
