A 13-year-old girl was brutally gang-raped by five builders in a horror attack while trying to find shelter from heavy rain. He was allegedly spotted by construction workers when they pounced on the teenager under the cover of an unfinished construction site on Tuesday night.
The girl, who worked at a local care facility in Lucknow, Uttar Pradesh, India, was commuting to work when one of the workers allegedly dragged her into the structure. Reports state that the vile predators tied her hands and ankles together before gagging her with a cloth to silence her screams. A few more people stood guard while the attack took place. His boss expressed concern when he didn’t show up on time.
Locals joined the search and eventually found him on the third floor of the building. The suspects were found hiding near a rooftop water tank before being caught by citizens and handed over to the police.
Police detained five persons, all of whom were identified as laborers from Sitapur district. The girl was taken to the hospital and received treatment.
The case triggered outrage in Lucknow; Residents demanded speedy justice and stronger security measures for women and children.
Authorities have confirmed that charges will be filed under relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code and the Protection of Children from Sexual Offenses (POCSO) Act.
