12 books were shortlisted for this year’s YA Book of the Year awards.
Fiction prize judges, writer and critic Bram Presser and essayist and critic Beejay Silcox, said the six shortlisted novels reflected “the vitality and diversity of contemporary storytelling, bringing together powerful collaborations, writers deepening their craft, and flashes of wild ambition.”
While the novels move between ghost stories, family histories, eco-dystopias, and ancient allegories, the jury found that they all share a similar focus and, at their core, “each of these books addresses the same enduring question: What debt do we owe to each other? In these pages, that feels more urgent than ever.”
