Texas Teacher Gets Probation & $1,000 Fine After Pleading Guilty to Sexual Relationships With Two Boys Under 17
Former Valley Mills High School teacher and coach reportedly He pleaded guilty to two counts of improper educator-student relationship for allegedly having sexual intercourse with two teenagers.
Shelby Dawn Lashombe, who resigned from her teaching position at Valley Mills High School and voluntarily gave up her teaching certification because of the allegations against her, pleaded guilty to two charges in McLennan County on Friday before 19th State District Judge Thomas West.
Prosecutors recommended a $1,000 fine as well as deferred probation for Lashombe.
The McLennan County District Attorney’s Office agreed to dismiss two of four charges against him, which included sexual assault of a child, both second-degree felonies.
The two second-degree felony charges of improper educator-student relationship carry a sentence of up to 20 years in prison.
Judge Thomas West ordered a presentence investigation by probation officers before accepting or rejecting an offer to resolve the case through plea bargaining.
The sentence in the case will be given on June 26. Thanks to deferred probation, Lashombe will not be found guilty of the crime as long as he complies with the terms of his probation.
The two teenagers, who were students at West High School and Axtell High School, were not enrolled at the school where Lashombe worked, authorities said.
In an arrest warrant for Lashombe, the McLennan County Sheriff’s Department states that it received information that Lashombe kissed a 16-year-old male and that the two had sexual intercourse.
The officer who interviewed the minor said the teen confirmed the sexual activity and said it occurred more than once.
Lashombe told investigators he was aware of the young man’s age but did not tell him he was underage.
He admitted to being in a physical relationship with her and added that they had known each other for six months.
“Shelby said she had been friends with the teenager’s family for years and knew his age and that he was a student.”
He also admitted to having an ongoing sexual relationship with another young man under the age of 17, the document states.
