It’s been more than a decade since Jordan Spieth won the coveted green jacket, but the three-time major champion returned to historic Augusta National Golf Club for the 90th Masters this week.
The second round started Friday morning and Spieth was at par after playing the first 14 holes of the day. At the time, Spieth trailed defending champion Rory McIlroy by five shots.
After shooting 72 in Thursday’s opening round, Spieth birdied his first hole on Friday. He then parred 10 consecutive holes to reach No. 12. McIlroy finished the round at the top of the leaderboard at 12 under par.

Spieth also caught a break off the tee. His car swerved left and appeared to head towards the trees before turning back into the fairway.
Why? Spieth’s shot hit the Masters boss. “What a leap,” one commentator said, according to ESPN. “I guess that hit that boss’s hand.”

Spieth made a point to check in on the customer before moving on, and later thanked him with an autographed glove.

Spieth has a knack for creative and sometimes risky shooting. An errant move nearly hit a group of fans at last spring’s Memorial Tournament in Ohio, but Spieth was still on par. He also wowed crowds at the CJ Cup Byron Nelson in 2024 and the Players Championship three years ago.

Spieth even had a viral moment at Augusta National last year when he accidentally hit a patron in the groin with his bat while heading to the first tee.

The 2017 Open Championship was Spieth’s last major victory. At this year’s Masters, he finished Friday’s second round at 1-over for 32nd place.
