Three people were killed when the car they were traveling in crashed into a tree in east Perth on Saturday morning.
The vehicle was traveling along Stoneville Road near Timbertop Road and La Grange Road when it left the roadway around 8:50 a.m. and crashed, fatally injuring all three passengers.
Brent Fuller was at his home nearby when he received a text message informing him of an accident near the intersection of his street.
“I turned the corner and saw the car stuck between two trees,” he said. 9 News Perth.
“It was pretty serious. The roof was half open. It was pretty mangled and it was also an old car, so it was made of proper steel.”
“It was wedged between two trees; it was only 1.5 – maybe 2 meters wide.
“There was a tree on it, too. A bobcat was already here, getting ready to take it out, trying to get it open for emergency services as best they could when they got here.”
Fuller and other citizens passing by tried to help those inside.
Other neighbors said they heard the sound of acceleration without brake sound before a loud explosion.
Another witness said he saw the vehicle pass him and move into his lane.
“I guess they overcorrected and ended up stuck between two trees,” he said.
The incident occurred just before 09:00 on Saturday morning and many police, firefighters and ambulance personnel arrived at the scene.
The road was closed as Major Crash Investigation Unit officers examined the scene, but it was later opened.
