Britain is set to enjoy intense early summer sunshine this month as weather maps show temperatures rising to 22°C in parts of the country. Forecasts show six counties to be the hottest places in Britain next week; Kent, Essex, Surrey, Sussex, Hampshire and Greater London are all likely to enjoy the warmest conditions.

Clear weather charts for Tuesday 21 April show that the warmest weather will be concentrated in southern and eastern England, with many counties enjoying highs typical of June compared to late April. The latest maps show Kent, Essex, Surrey, Sussex and Hampshire, as well as London, with temperatures around 20 to 22 degrees by the middle of next week. East Anglia is also expected to enjoy the mini heat; Temperatures are expected to be between 19C and 21C in Norfolk, Suffolk and Cambridgeshire. The hottest spots on the maps appear to be parts of Kent and Essex, where temperatures could reach 22 degrees in the afternoon.

Major cities such as London, Canterbury, Chelmsford, Colchester, Cambridge and Norwich are expected to see some of the hottest conditions in the UK.

Further west, counties such as Dorset, Somerset, Wiltshire and Gloucestershire are expected to reach 17°C to 19°C, while Birmingham and parts of the Midlands could see highs of 16°C to 18°C.

Northern England is expected to remain cooler but cities such as Manchester, Leeds, Sheffield and Newcastle could still reach between 13C and 16C.

Scotland will see the coldest conditions overall; Temperatures in the Highlands, Aberdeenshire and the far north will remain between 7C and 10C. Glasgow and Edinburgh temperatures can be around 11 to 13 degrees.

Wales is expected to experience beautiful spring weather, with temperatures forecast to reach between 14 and 17 degrees in Cardiff, Swansea and Newport.

Maps show warm air will spread north from the nearby Continent, helping temperatures rise sharply in the southeast.

Coastal areas along the English Channel such as Brighton, Dover, Bournemouth and Portsmouth are also expected to enjoy sunny weather and high temperatures around 20C.

Temperatures are expected to be highest in inland areas, while coastal areas are expected to remain slightly cooler due to sea breezes.

There is also a clear north-south divide on the maps; Scotland and Northern Ireland remain much colder than southern England.

The warmest conditions appear to be spreading from the south coast to the Home Counties and East Anglia; Eastern regions are generally warmer than western regions.
