Man, 23, is dead and seven others are rushed to hospital after multi-vehicle crash ‘following police pursuit’

A 23-year-old man died and seven people were hospitalized after a multiple vehicle collision during a police pursuit.
Emergency services were called to the northbound A21 at Robertsbridge in East Sussex at 8.20pm on Saturday following reports that a BMW car had crashed into three other vehicles.
Sussex Police confirmed the incident occurred following a police pursuit and police referred them to the Independent Office for Police Conduct (IOPC).
A spokesperson for Sussex Police said the driver of the BMW was a 23-year-old man from Halisham and was pronounced dead at the scene.
They said that two other passengers in a different vehicle were taken to hospital with ‘serious injuries’, while five other passengers were ‘slightly injured’ and were treated in hospital.
They added that the BMW ‘was involved in a police pursuit shortly before the collision’ and that the IOPC would conduct an independent investigation into the incident.
Detective Superintendent Andy Wolstenholme described the incident as ‘tragic’.
He said: ‘Our thoughts are with this young man’s family and everyone affected.
