Trump launches extraordinary attack on Pope demanding ‘don’t criticise me’ | US | News

President Trump launched an extraordinary attack on the Pope, demanding that he “not criticize the President.”

Claims that the Pope is “weak on crime and terrible on foreign policy” were published on the social media site.

The US President continues to attack the Catholic church, citing the 2020 Covid pandemic in which he claims priests were arrested for church services.

In the ongoing criticism, Trump launches a personal attack on Pope Leo, adding, “I like his brother Louis much better.”

The post reads: “I don’t want a Pope who thinks it’s okay for Iran to have Nuclear Weapons. I don’t want a Pope who thinks it’s terrible that America is attacking Venezuela, which is sending massive amounts of drugs to the United States and worse, emptying its prisons into our Country, including murderers, drug dealers, and murderers.”

And I don’t want a Pope who criticizes the President of the United States because I’m doing exactly what I was elected to do, during a landslide…

“Leo should act as Pope, use his Common Sense, stop serving the Radical Left, and focus on being the Great Pope, not the Politician.”

The criticism came after the Pope stepped into the political arena during a devotional at the Vatican on Saturday. He called on world leaders to stop and called for peace.

Speaking during an evening peace vigil in St. Peter’s Basilica at the Vatican on Saturday, the first US-born pope made a direct appeal to world leaders to return to negotiations.

While conducting the ritual, he said: “Enough with the worship of self and money! Enough with the display of power! Enough with war! True power is shown in the service of life.”

Although the Iran-US conflict was not specifically mentioned, these statements came as negotiations between the two countries were taking place in Pakistan.

Leo also warned against what he called “the illusion of omnipotence that surrounds us and becomes increasingly unpredictable and aggressive.”

Speaking to reporters at Joint Base Andrews in Maryland, Trump launched further attacks on the Pope. He said: “We don’t like a Pope who says it’s okay to have nuclear weapons! We don’t like a Pope who says it’s okay to have crime in our cities!”

“He doesn’t want us playing with a country that wants nuclear weapons to blow up the world.

“I’m not a fan of Pope Leo.”

His comments came as the President claimed Iran ‘still wants nuclear weapons’ after 21 hours of peace talks.

Trump reiterated on Sunday evening that Iran was in a “very bad situation.”

He added: “And just so you understand, Iran will not have nuclear weapons. It will not.”
