President Donald Trump touched on several pressing international conflicts after departing Air Force One in Maryland on Sunday, announcing the destruction of Iranian naval forces ahead of a planned energy blockade and expressing harsh disapproval of a perceived lack of support from NATO.
“Their army has been destroyed,” Trump said. “Their entire navy is under water. You know that 158 ships left. Their fleet is gone. Most of the mine droppers are gone.”
“The blockade will come into effect at 10 o’clock tomorrow,” Trump said. “Other countries are working to prevent Iran from selling oil””
Trump also underlined U.S. energy independence and suggested international ships were bypassing traditional routes to buy American oil.

“There are many boats heading towards our country to fill oil and then go and get it,” he said.
The president later expressed his strong disapproval of NATO countries, stating that America’s financial commitment to supporting the alliance would be under “very serious” scrutiny.
“But I’m very disappointed in NATO,” he said. “They weren’t there for us. We pay trillions of dollars to NATO, but they weren’t there for us.”
While NATO countries are now taking action to help the United States, Trump called the effort too late.
“They want to move up now, but there’s no real threat anymore,” he said.
