The energy minister said the government would consider “everything” to ensure Australia’s fuel resilience into the future, including greater electrification and resource extraction.

“We will always look at sensible offers in relation to indigenous talent,” Bowen told reporters in Canberra.

“This includes sensible measures on storage and extraction, as well as ongoing efforts on electrification and renewable energy,” he said.

Bowen said some were trying to turn the oil shock into a culture war, but the government was focused on building resilience.

“But you know, this is a medium and long-term priority for the government. Right now we are focused on ensuring we get out of this uncertain international environment,” he said.

“We’re not making any other announcements today, but obviously… we’ll always look at things that make sense in due course to ensure our ongoing resilience.”
