Prince Harry and Meghan tour LIVE: Sussexes arrive in Australia | Royal | News

Prince Harry and Meghan Markle have arrived in Australia for the start of their four-day trip to showcase causes they care deeply about. From veterans to children, mental health to sport, former royals will visit venues in Melbourne, Canberra and Sydney over several jam-packed days.

The busy itinerary does not include the opportunity for Harry and Meghan to stop and greet members of the public due to “costs associated with maintaining security and public order”.

When they last went Down Under on an official royal tour in 2018, they received a warm welcome from the public who fully embraced the newlywed couple. But they may receive a colder reception this time around, as thousands of people are unhappy that taxpayers’ money is being spent to ensure their safety. More than 46,000 people signed a petition demanding taxpayers’ money not be spent on their visit.

Responding to the petition last month, a spokesman for the couple said: “This is a moot point” because the trip was privately financed. But officials in New South Wales and Victoria confirmed last week that part of the security for Harry and Meghan’s trip would be covered by public funds.
