Sofia Vergara celebrates Modern Family husband Ed O’Neill’s 80th birthday
Sofia Vergara took to Instagram this week to celebrate her former Modern Family co-star and on-screen husband Ed O’Neill’s birthday.
The 53-year-old actress posted a throwback photo of the pair wearing a sparkling emerald green dress and her arm around O’Neill, who turns 80 on Sunday.
While fans praised the former Married…With Children star on social media, they expressed shock at the veteran actor’s age.
Vergara captioned her post: ‘Feliz cumpleaños to my favorite husband!❤️ I miss you Ed O’Neill!!!!’
The note appeared to be a subtle levity towards her ex-husband Joe Manganiello, from whom she split in 2024 after nine years of marriage.
She was also previously married to Joe Gonzalez, with whom she shares 34-year-old son Manolo, from 1991 to 1993.

In January, Vergara shared photos of her mini-reunion with her former Modern Family co-stars.
She revealed on Instagram that she spent time with Julie Bowen and Jesse Tyler Ferguson.
Bowen played Claire Dunphy in the series, while Ferguson played Mitchell Pritchett in the comedy series.
Last October, Vergara provided an update on the cast five years after the series finale.
“We’re still like a family,” the Griselda actress told E! News.
‘Everything we do is driven by a huge conversation with all the kids and all the players. And we’re always watching each other, supporting each other.’
O’Neill has remained busy since Modern Family ended.
In 2024, he played disgraced NBA owner Donald Sterling in the miniseries Clipped.
O’Neill is known for his role as Al Bundy in the TV series Married…With Children. He starred in the series for 11 seasons, alongside Katey Sagal, Christina Applegate and David Faustino.
She also appeared in Ryan Murphy’s legal thriller All’s Fair, which also starred Kim Kardashian, Glenn Close, Sarah Paulson and Teyana Taylor.
O’Neill is known for his role as Al Bundy in the TV series Married…With Children. She starred in the series for 11 seasons, alongside Katey Sagal as Peggy Bundy, Christina Applegate as Kelly Bundy, and David Faustino as Bud Bundy.
The series, which originally aired for 11 seasons and 259 episodes from 1987 to 1997, helped launch the career of Applegate, who found mainstream success in films such as Anchorman and Bad Moms, as well as the critically acclaimed drama-comedy Dead to Me.
Applegate, who plays his daughter in the series, previously talked about how she ‘raised’ him in his teenage years on the show.
‘She raised me, if you don’t like anything about me it’s her fault. “If you like anything about me, it’s her fault too,” he joked in 2024, before calling her “an incredible person.”
As for his personal life, O’Neill has been married to 72-year-old actress Catherine Rusoff since 1986. The couple has two daughters named Sophia and Claire.
