Residents block highway at Kannamaly in Kerala’s Ernakulam protesting sea incursion impact

Throughout the coastal Ernakulam region in Kerala, the inhabitants of Chellanam Panchayat left siege to 66 on the second day of Kannamaly, Kochi-Alapuzha State Highway 66 and stopped on Tuesday, June 17, 2025.

Kochi and Alleppey Archdioceses demanded a permanent solution to the sea attack that they supported the public protest. The decision was taken on Monday at a Care Chellanam-Kochi meeting gathered by Archdioceses.
Hunger strike by priests
The rallies that declared the decision will be held on Wednesday, June 18, 2025, and then will be held by the priests at the Thoppumpady Bot Junction on 20 June 2025.
On June 30, Chellanam-Kochi Janakeaya Vedhi called a map to protest against the delay in the postponement of tetrapodes and Groyne series in order to get rid of the sea erosion of tetrapodes and Groyne series.
