2SER survival dims after UTS says it won’t give funding

2SER’s survival hopes were dealt a blow when one of several potential replacement university partners refused to provide the lost funding needed to run the beloved Sydney community radio station.

Nine first reported this week that 2SER could close as early as July. He was unable to find another funder for the station, which has served as the training ground for countless Australian media and political figures throughout its nearly 50 years of operation.

In October, Macquarie University, one of 2SER’s two university backers, announced it would stop funding the radio station at the end of 2026, after nearly 40 years of support.
