Sridhar Babu Pitches Telangana as a Gateway for US in Aerospace, Defence Firms

Hyderabad: IT and Industry Minister D. Sridhar Babu on Thursday positioned Telangana as India’s largest hub for aerospace, defense and space investments, stating that this sector is projected for over 30 per cent annual growth from 2024 to 2026 and export CAGR of 103 per cent. Babu urged American companies to participate in advanced manufacturing, defense technology and space systems. “From rockets to next-generation drones, combat components and satellites, ‘Made in Telangana’ is making its mark on the world stage,” said Sridhar Babu.

Speaking to the US National War College delegation at the Secretariat, Sridhar Babu said the state is looking at global leadership in unmanned aerial vehicles, counter-drone systems, aerospace components, defense electronics, cyber security, defense artificial intelligence, satellites and communications.

The growth in the sector in the state has been driven by industrial giants such as Lockheed Martin, Boeing, Safran, Airbus and Dassault setting up their own units. The city also hosts many important institutions such as DRDO, BHEL, Midhani, BDL, RCI and HAL. He said more than 1,500 MSMEs are using precision engineering and drones.

The Minister said that according to a survey, Hyderabad is ranked as the most cost-effective aviation city in the world. Telangana has won India’s “Best State in Aerospace” award for five consecutive years. Sridhar Babu also emphasized that TG-iPASS will get approval within 15-30 days and Young India Skill University will provide skilled workers. Sridhar Babu said Telangana is looking for US partnerships not just in investments but also in technology, research, manufacturing and skills.

US minister-adviser Paul Narain has confirmed his interest in progressive states like Telangana for deeper relations. The delegation included representatives from the Navy, Army, Defense Security Cooperation Agency, Intelligence Community, Air National Guard and Information Systems Agency. TGIIC managing director Shashank, director Nikhil Chakravarthi and aviation director Praveen attended the meeting.
