US President Donald Trump has said he will not meet with Pope Leo XIV and even issued a dire nuclear warning as the conflict with Iran continues.
Speaking to reporters before departing for Marine One from the South Lawn of the White House, Mr Trump was asked whether he would meet with the Pope to “equalise” differences. He responded by saying, “I don’t think it’s necessary.”
When Mr. Trump was asked why he was “fighting” with Pope Leo XIV, he replied: “I have to do the right thing. I have nothing against the Pope. I’m not fighting with him. The Pope made a statement saying Iran might have nuclear weapons.”
The reporter noted that the Pope did not say this, but Mr. Trump ignored the comment. The US President added, “I may disagree with the Pope. I have the right to do so.” The US President also said, “The Pope needs to understand that Iran cannot have a nuclear weapon if it has every country, including Italy, that has nuclear weapons.” [the Pope] He will be in trouble if he is deployed.”

This week, Mr. Trump published several posts on Truth Social criticizing the head of the Catholic Church and his NATO allies.
In one of his speeches, he said that the Pope was “weak on crime and terrible on foreign policy.” His full message was: “I don’t want a Pope who thinks it’s okay for Iran to have Nuclear Weapons. I don’t want a Pope who thinks it’s terrible that America is attacking Venezuela, a country that is sending massive amounts of Drugs to the US and worse, dumping its prisons into our Country, including murderers, drug dealers, and murderers.”
“And I do not want a Pope who criticizes the President of the United States because I am doing exactly what I was elected to do, IN A LANDSLIDE… Leo must act as Pope, use his Common Sense, stop serving the Radical Left and focus on being the Great Pope, not the Politician.”

Mr. Trump later refused to apologize and criticized Pope Benedict XIV. He added that Leo was “very weak on crime and other issues” and said he had “nothing to apologize for, he will apologize himself.” [the Pope] wrong”.
Pope Leo XIV responded to Mr. Trump as he began his visit to Africa, saying: “I am not afraid of the Trump administration. I speak of the Gospel and therefore I will continue to speak out against the war. I have no intention of entering into an argument with him.”

Mr. Trump’s comments also angered Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni. Meloni said: “I find President Trump’s words about the Holy Father unacceptable. The Pope is the head of the Catholic Church and it is right and normal for him to call for peace and condemn all forms of war.”
Recently, Mr. Trump’s supporters have taken to social media to share their frustrations with the President’s recent messages on Truth.
Users wrote, “I don’t mean to sound lefty here, but I’m done with Trump. Posting this confirms he’s trying to start a cult” and “Mr. President, I fully support your actions as PRESIDENT, but this post is TERRIBLE. You are completely disrespectful to the Christian men and women who support you. I am deeply saddened to say that you have disappointed me for once.”
