Road safety study was carried out for NH-44
Hyderabad: A foundation, in collaboration with the Telangana government and the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI), on Thursday launched a road safety intervention program on the 251-km stretch of National Highway-44 between Hyderabad and Adilabad, identified as one of India’s highest freight corridors in terms of road accident fatalities.
The initiative, launched during Live Road Safety Week as part of the government’s 99-day Praja Palana program, will offer structured and technology-driven protocols for responding to accidents. Measures include improving ambulance coordination and deploying trained medical personnel to ensure timely treatment.
Agencies identified 45 high-risk clusters along this corridor, accounting for nearly 60 percent of traffic fatalities.
Rail and state officials discuss high-speed rail corridors
Hyderabad: Government and South Central Railway officials on Thursday held a preliminary discussion on proposals for high-speed rail corridors connecting Hyderabad to Bengaluru, Chennai and Pune. They reviewed the Regional Ring Rail project proposal and took stock of ongoing infrastructure works in the state including Roads Under Bridges (RUBs), Roads Over Bridges (ROBs), new railway lines, station development and approaches.
The meeting was attended by Chief Secretary K. Ramakrishna Rao and South Central Railway (SCR) general manager Sanjay Kumar Srivastava, along with senior officials from the state government and railways, and focused on strengthening coordination between the two parties.
The railways sought the support of the state government for approval and execution of RUB and ROB works, including issuance of NOCs, land acquisition, diversion of traffic and shifting of facilities such as power lines and pipelines. Cooperation was also sought for new railway line projects, especially on land acquisition and cost sharing.
Addressing the meeting, Srivastava said, “Completion of various ongoing railway infrastructure projects under discussion will not only be beneficial to the public but will also contribute to the economic development of the state.” he said. “The support from the state government will greatly accelerate the pace of implementation of these projects,” he added.
Ramakrishna Rao emphasized the need for structured interaction and closer coordination between the state government and the Railways. “Integrated planning and cooperation between different departments are essential for the development of the state. Better communication and understanding between the State and the Railways will help solve all kinds of problems and contribute to the betterment of the people.”
