In his opinion piece, Wenski disputed the claim that the decreasing number of unaccompanied minors was an acceptable reason to withhold funding.

“It is true that the number of unaccompanied minors entering the country has decreased. It is also understandable that some programs have been scaled back or even eliminated. But given the history and reputation of the Mrs. Bryan O. Walsh Children’s Village, it is surprising that the U.S. government would close a program that will be difficult to replicate at the level of proficiency and excellence achieved by Catholic Charities when future waves of unaccompanied minors reach our shores,” Wenski wrote.
