Assembly Elections 2026 LIVE: Income Tax raids rock poll-bound West Bengal, Tamil Nadu

Alleging that the TMC had hatched a conspiracy to include the names of infiltrators in the voter rolls, Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis claimed that while the party objected to the SIR application, people whose names were deleted for “justifiable reasons” did not protest.

Addressing a press conference in Kolkata, Mr. Fadnavis said the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls contains constitutional provisions to address the grievances of those left out of the electoral rolls.

“Those whose names were deleted for justified reasons did not object. Why is there only a problem with the TMC? The Supreme Court made some findings regarding the SIR but did not stop it, but the TMC wanted the process to be stopped completely,” he said.

“There are constitutional provisions in the SIR that if any person who has been wronged seeks compensation, he can take legal action and object to the full extent. In this context, I welcome the Supreme Court decision,” he said.

Claiming that the ruling TMC is opposing this to win the upcoming Assembly elections by “fraudulent means”, Mr. Fadnavis maintained that such an exercise should be done every 10 years to remove the names of deceased, displaced persons and unauthorized voters.
