Adani bags top spot in richest Asians’ club

The owner of Adani Group has overtaken Reliance Industries (RIL) chairman Mukesh Ambani to top the continental list in the Bloomberg Billionaires Index, following gains in several listed stocks in what has been a highly eventful month for RIL entities on the bourses.
Adani’s net worth reached $92.6 billion as of April 16, compared to Ambani’s $90.8 billion, according to the Bloomberg gauge, which measures real-time wealth. Over the last decade, Adani’s wealth has grown at a compound annual rate of 34%, while Ambani’s net worth has increased by 15%.
Zeng Yuqun, chairman of Chinese battery manufacturer CATL, is the third richest person with a net worth of $70.8 billion.

General List
Adani ranks 19th globally on Bloomberg’s rich list, one place ahead of Ambani. At the top of the global list, where there is a visible American dominance, is Elon Musk, owner of Tesla Inc. In September 2022, Adani briefly became the world’s fourth richest person, with a net worth of $149.9 billion, before a sharp reversal triggered by allegations of accounting irregularities by Hindenburg Research.
As of February 2023, a month after the allegations were made, his net worth had fallen to approximately $37 billion. The recent recovery of around 10% so far in 2026 was driven by double-digit gains in most of the listed Adani group entities.
