Trump signs executive order directing FDA to review psychedelics, cites veterans

President Donald Trump signed an executive order Saturday saying he was “directing the FDA to expedite its review of certain psychedelics currently designated as breakthrough therapy drugs.”
“These treatments are currently in advanced stages of clinical trials to ensure they are both safe and effective for American patients,” he added.
The president said the executive order would implement “historic reforms that will significantly accelerate access to new medical research and treatments based on psychedelic drugs.”
“In many cases, these experimental treatments have demonstrated life-changing potential for those suffering from serious mental illness and depression, including our beloved veterans,” Trump said, referring to the veterans’ suicide rate. he said.
