Naidu Wants People to Decimate Congress for Defeating Women’s Reservation Bill

vijayawada:Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu has urged people to do justice to women by ensuring that the opposition Congress and its allies do not get deposits in the coming elections to nullify the Women’s Reservation Bill in the Lok Sabha. Naidu, along with Jana Sena’s Tourism Minister Kandula Durgesh and AP BJP chief PNV Madhav, attended a massive rally organized by the ruling NDA alliance at Nidadavole in East Godavari district on Saturday to protest the defeat of the 131st Constitutional Amendment Women Reservation Bill, 2026 in Parliament on Friday.

Addressing the meeting, the AP Chief Minister harshly criticized the Congress and its allies for betraying women by rejecting the bill, saying they had no respect for women. “It is an unforgivable crime. We need to see that such parties cannot even get back their deposits in the elections. Everyone is equal and women should be allowed to live with self-respect. We consider this as a dark day in the history of India as the opposition parties defeated the Women’s Reservation Bill.” Naidu said similar protest rallies will be held across the country to raise awareness about the issue. “We want the support of everyone who wants 33 percent reservation for women in legislative bodies, whether it be the Parliament, the European Parliament or the Council.”

The Prime Minister said Prime Minister Narendra Modi and union Home Minister Amit Shah tried to allay the concerns of opposition parties who claimed that the Limitation Bill linked to the Women Reservation Act would affect the south, north-east and smaller states, but the Congress and its allies defeated the bill by ensuring that it did not get the two-third majority required to become law in the Lok Sabha. “The Women’s Reservation Bill would have been passed if the Congress and its allies had supported it. The Congress party is always used to cheating women. We believe that no political party that works against women can survive. We will fight until women get 33 per cent reservation,” said Chandrababu Naidu. He recalled the history of the Women’s Reservation Bill dating back to 1996, when the then prime minister Deve Gowda and himself as convenor of the United Front tried to get the bill passed. However, he had to withdraw as the Congress party did not support it.

He underlined that former prime minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee also brought the bill four times and the Congress Party stalled the bill each time. He stated that although the Women Reservation Bill was passed in the Rajya Sabha by the Congress-led UPA government in 2010 and the BJP also supported the bill, the Congress betrayed women by not passing the bill in the Lok Sabha. The AP Chief Minister emphasized that the BJP-led NDA government led by Prime Minister Narendra Modi had brought the bill in 2023, but it was conditional. She wondered how the Congress and its allies could stop the bill on Friday, when Prime Minister Modi was planning to introduce the law to respect women. Naidu accused the Congress of betrayal in granting reservation to women from 1996 to 2026. She wondered when the Women’s Reservation Act would come into effect. He noted that the TD-led government had passed a resolution in the AP Legislative Assembly in 2017 to extend support for the Women’s Reservation Act.
