Marco Rose agrees to succeed Andoni Iraola at Bournemouth

Bournemouth are used to missing out on big talents and although Iraola insists he has no other job, he is expected to be in high demand this summer.

They lost three of their four first-choice defenders before the start of the season. Milos Kerkez joined Liverpool, Ilya Zabarnyi moved to Paris St-Germain and Dean Huijsen signed for Real Madrid for a total fee of around £150 million.

In January, attacker Antoine Semenyo joined Manchester City after his release clause was activated.

However, Cherries can reflect positively on any successful change. Kerkez was replaced by Adrien Truffert, Huijsen was replaced by Bafode Diakite and Rayan was signed as Semenyo’s successor.

The club hopes Rose follows suit. He has long been seen as a potential replacement for Iraola should the Spaniard decide to leave.

Bournemouth were impressed by Rose’s five-year club leadership experience in the Champions League, as well as his Europa League background.

He played a role in the development of many leading players such as Erling Haaland and Jude Bellingham at Borussia Dortmund and Dominik Szoboszlai at RB Leipzig. Rose also achieved surprise success at Borussia Monchengladbach by qualifying for the Champions League with limited resources.

These experiences will be crucial if Bournemouth qualify for Europe for the first time. Player trading continues to offset revenue constraints resulting from the club’s relatively small stadium and commercial income.

It’s also a low-risk appointment: Rose is currently without a club, meaning no compensation will be required, but they hope it will have an immediate impact next season.
