A woman has been charged with attempted murder after a car crashed into pedestrians in central London early on Sunday.

The Metropolitan Police said a woman in her 30s remained in life-threatening injuries and a man in his 50s suffered life-changing injuries after being struck by a car on Argyll Street, Westminster, at around 4.30am on Sunday. Police said a second woman in her 30s also suffered minor injuries.

Gabrielle Carrington, 29, of Broadfield Road, Manchester, has been charged with attempted murder, causing grievous bodily harm with intent, causing actual bodily harm and drink driving, police said on Monday evening.

He was remanded in custody before his first appearance at Westminster magistrates’ court on Tuesday.

On Sunday, after the alleged incident, DCI Alison Foxwell appealed for potential witnesses to come forward. He said: “Our thoughts are with the injured and their loved ones as our investigations continue.

“When this incident occurred in the early hours of the morning, venues in the area were still open and we believe many people would have seen what happened.

“I would appeal to anyone who witnessed the collision or any activity they think may be relevant prior to the collision to come forward. The information you have – no matter how trivial you believe it to be – could be vital to investigators.”
