Tokyo Dome City worker dies after being trapped in ride mechanism

An employee performing routine maintenance at a theme park in Tokyo reportedly died after being trapped inside the mechanism of the amusement ride for a long time.

The incident occurred Tuesday on the “Flying Balloon” ride at Tokyo Dome City Attractions, the company said.

“During routine maintenance work on the vehicle, one of our employees got stuck inside the gondola mechanism of the vehicle,” the company said. “Following rescue operations, the employee was transported to hospital where his death was later confirmed.”

By the way In a statement to local media outlet NHK World Japan, police identified the worker as 24-year-old Kamimura Hina. It took nearly five hours for staff to release him, but he was eventually pronounced dead at the hospital.

The “Flying Balloon” is reportedly a 12-seat ride where passengers sit in a circle around a central pillar. The seats rotate throughout the structure, rising to a height of approximately 30 feet.

During the operator’s monthly inspection, the seats were raised, allowing Kamimura and five colleagues to access and examine the vehicle’s mechanisms.

It is believed that the victim was working on a ladder when the raised seats suddenly fell, trapping him against the center pillar.

“We offer our deepest prayers for the repose of the deceased employee’s soul and extend our deepest condolences and apologies to the bereaved family,” the company said. “We would also like to once again offer our sincerest apologies to all our customers and stakeholders who have suffered and caused concern as a result of this accident.

The company said it was conducting a comprehensive investigation into the cause of the accident in coordination with relevant authorities, including the police and fire brigade.

They added that operations at all of the amusement park’s attractions were immediately suspended until further notice, adding that “we are exerting all our efforts to thoroughly investigate the cause of this incident and implement measures to prevent its recurrence.”
