A piece of the UFC White House event’s setup is sitting in Pennsylvania Amish country

There’s a lot of buzz surrounding the upcoming UFC Freedom 250 UFC event will take place at the White House, but right now much of the event setup is in a place you probably wouldn’t expect: Pennsylvania Amish country.

I was born and raised in south-central Pennsylvania before moving to the sunny, state income tax-free state of Florida; A place of rolling hills, horses and carriages, and people ordering junk not because they dare, but because they want to.

Recently, a giant metal dome appeared in the area near Lititz, Pa., just outside of Lancaster and about an hour and a half west of Philadelphia, leaving residents quite confused.

Understandably so. I mean, it’s not like the Amish suddenly revamped their barn design.

Local news station WGAL did some digging and found that the structure was built by Tait Global, a company that builds lighting towers and stages for some of the biggest tours and concerts on the planet. According to their website, they built the stage for the Backstreet Boys’ residency at the Sphere in Las Vegas.

It turns out that the dome is actually called “The Claw” and will be taken to the White House for UFC Freedom 250.

But what many people don’t realize is that there is a place in Lititz called Rock Lititz, which is home to a number of companies such as Tait Global that produce sets and provide other support for live performances.

Very famous artists come in and out of the area all the time.

Amish country

This is definitely not where you’d expect to see the decorations for a big UFC event at the White House, right? (iStock)

Actually, years ago I was working at a radio station and we were doing an event at the nearby airport. I was standing at the airport firehouse (I kid you not, waiting for the Phillie Phanatic to dress up to attend our event) and talking to the firefighter on duty. He told me about seeing giant stars flying into this small airport to go to Rock Lititz.

It seems very strange to me that all of this is happening right in the middle of Amish country. Now, it looks like in just a few weeks, “The Claw” will be driven a few hours south to Washington, D.C., and become a part of history.
