“Those who believe they can run Bengal from Delhi are deeply mistaken”: Mamata Banerjee

CM Banerjee launched a veiled attack against the BJP in a post on X and said the state will not be ruled or dictated by Delhi. He affirmed a staunch defense of Bengal, citing the importance of their homeland.
“In Chowrangee, Bhabanipur, Jadavpur and Tollyganj, I saw people with clear intent, determined, united and ready to defend Bengal, its identity and its future. Those who believe that they can rule Bengal from Delhi, dictate its politics, divide its people and distort its culture are deeply mistaken. This land has a long memory and a stronger backbone,” he wrote.

He also confirmed that attempts to undermine Bengal would be met with “democratic pushback”. He acknowledged that the elections were an attempt at resistance, accusing the BJP of trying to usurp Bengal’s rights and impose an agenda.
“Those sitting in Delhi who plan to usurp Bengal’s rights and impose their own agenda must clearly understand that the people of Bengal are watching and will respond with their votes. Any attempt to undermine Bengal will be met with determined democratic pushback. This election is about resisting a systematic attempt to weaken and control Bengal,” he wrote.
CM Banerjee also touched on the development and welfare efforts of the ruling TMC, stating that Bengal is developing despite “constant obstruction”. He asked the people to overcome their differences and vote unanimously for the identity of Bengal by voting for TMC once again. “Despite constant hurdles, development has reached every doorstep in Bengal. Our welfare programs are lifelines and no power, no matter how powerful it believes itself to be, can take it away from the people. Bengal today stands tall for progress, for peace and for dignity. The love and trust of the people is our greatest strength. They push us forward and will defeat every attempt to weaken Bengal,” he wrote.
“I appeal to every citizen to overcome differences, stand united and vote to preserve the language, culture and future of Bengal. Vote for Nayna Bandopadhyay in Chowrangee, Debabrata Majumdar in Jadavpur, Aroop Biswas in Tollyganj and all Maa-Mati-Manush candidates.”

On the other hand, Prime Minister Narendra Modi earlier today confirmed that the ruling TMC’s ‘Maha Jungle Raj’ will come to an end, expressing confidence that the BJP will win a landslide victory in the West Bengal assembly elections.
Addressing the Vijay Sankalp Sabha to support the BJP’s prospects ahead of the second phase of the West Bengal assembly elections, the Chief Minister expressed heartfelt gratitude to the people for supporting the BJP in the first phase of Thursday’s election and said they were “rebuilding the temple of democracy”.
“Yesterday, after the first vote, the wave of change that has been seen for a long time in Bengal was registered. The support given to the BJP yesterday ushered in the victory of the BJP. In Bengal, where the TMC destroyed the temple of democracy with its tyranny, the people in that Bengal rebuilt that temple. Now, in the second phase, you will have to hoist our victory flag on this temple of democracy.”
Meanwhile, higher voter turnout of 91.91 per cent was recorded in Phase I polls in West Bengal, according to the latest data from the Election Commission of India.
Voting for the second phase is planned to be held on April 29, followed by the counting of votes on May 4.
