BORIS JOHNSON: Why Trump’s really turning against Putin and Ukraine can now dare to dream of victory again

If you want to know why Ukrainians are fate to win their great wars for independence, there is only one thing you need to do: Talk to them.
First of all, talk to the heroes who make real fighting and you will not understand that nothing can domesticate their longing to be free.
In the last three years, I have met hundreds of soldiers, men and women who looked irrelevant to the irregular spirit that fueled terrible injuries from their eyes.
I stood next to the hospital beds and listened to the unlimited confidence in the final victory, their desires to return to the battlefield – and when I was humble and surprised.
Yesterday, in London, in the first half of 2022, I had the privilege of meeting about 25 Gazi groups who fought during the terrible siege of Azovstal steel in Mariupol. These men were cut from the rest of Ukrainian challenges weeks after the week of an inhuman Russian bombardment.
In the end, when they could not fight anymore, they were captivated. Most of the men I met yesterday were not just wounded in the fight, but they were brutally tortured before returning to Ukraine.
Imagine the sacrifice of these young Ukrainians, especially in their 20s and 30s; Imagine the horror and grief of their families who should assume they are dead.
So I asked them the question I always asked from the veterans. As a passionate supporting Ukraine and as a person who supports Ukraine’s resistance to aggression, I feel that I have to ask morally. The question is: Was it worth it? All this pain, all this pain. Is it worth it?

Boris Johnson met war veterans in Ukraine at the Ukraine Embassy in London
Yesterday the answer was as passionate as I have heard so far and the same as usual.
Yes, it was worth it, so Ukraine could be free – a thousand times worth it. As one of them said: ‘If I had time again, I would do the same thing.’
Putin may have theoretically numbers (although the advantage here is probably exaggerated). It may be willing to swim the laws of war and to brutality on an industrial scale.
It may have the power to strike on civilian Ukrainian goals in a way that Ukrainians cannot play.
And nevertheless, for all North Korean Bashi-Basouqs (irregular or mercenaries, the Ottoman army), for all China’s designed drones, for all Chinese chumes, I believe that the clock is now on the embarrassing and wrong Ukrainian invasion, and it will really result in this year or the next decline.
The reason for this is not only more brave and more skillful than the Ukrainians, but also – for the first time in the months – the Western Ukraine seems to be united. The heroes I met yesterday are starting to imagine the final victory again.
After all the misery and uncertainty following the terrible February White House meeting between Trump and Zelensky, they dare to hope that I always believe: Trump 47 Trump will live up to 47 Trump 45 record.
Trump, one of all Western leaders, was the first to give Ukrainians to giving important fatal weapons in the form of Javelin-Tang weapons; That is why I always hoped and believed that he would come to the aid of freedom and democracy in Ukraine.
In the last few weeks, my optimism has deepened because something has changed in an indisputable way. There was a real hardening about Putin, a real sympathy for the situation of the Ukrainians in his language.
After a strange disruption in the Pentagon, the kit flows again when some maga officials seem unilaterally paused the flow of some weapons. The Ukrainians receive more important technologies such as Patriot Missile Defense Systems and Atacm they need.
Although the total package of American aid is worth 10 billion dollars and the draft law is suppressed by the Europeans, it seems only fair, because in this war, the US taxpayer has made more payment than European colleagues for per capita military support; And as Trump is reasonably observed, Ukraine is not in America, but in Europe.
At the same time, Trump begins to threaten some highly punishing sanctions. Congress’s Lindsey Graham has the chance to pass the bill for secondary sanctions trading with Russia – bringing a 500 percent tariff.
However, even before the draft law entered into force, Trump predicted the measure – threatening 100 percent of tariffs in Brazil, India, China and any other country, which is still buying energy from Russia until September 2. First of all, we have seen the change in the president’s attitude and the change in tone. In a recent conversation with Zelensky, Trump seemed to play Ukraine’s idea of hitting Moscow – just like Russia could hit Kiev. And even though the White House was rapidly withdrawn, Trump was ready to entertain thought.
So what has changed? What’s happening? Some US senators talk about the influence of Trump’s Slovenian wife Melania. “Every time he makes a phone call with Putin, Melania calls him ‘Putin’s liar’.
Some say Trump personally disgusted Putin’s civilians, especially the desire to slaughter children.
Perhaps there is a truth in both suggestions, but I think it’s simpler than that.
If you want to know what Trump is to do, see what you say what to do.
Trump, long before the US elections, clearly stated that he would offer an agreement to both sides. If the Ukrainians refused, he would stop supporting them and stop the flow of guns. If the Russians rejected, he would have doubled to support Ukraine.
This is more or less. The agreement that offers Trump that Ukrainians are harsh in many respects. They had to agree to allow America to access mineral beds. They had to admit that NATO membership was at least outside the table for now.
The most painful, at least in the near future, they had to admit that they could not save all their lands. Zelensky had the wisdom of accepting a ceasefire under these conditions.
Putin turned him over and over again. Trump finally seems to have enough.
Russia, this summer, will try to make much progress in a war area where the defense is much easier than the attack.
While standing behind them, the Ukrainians now have the advantage of a United NATO, which is ruled by a US President who cannot allow the best to be taken by Putin in the best way and have courage to end the war – morally or politically -.
And Trump has an unpredictable advantage that he supports Ukrainians like veterans I met yesterday – men and women who will not rest until they are free, dominant and safe in the long run.
