Sharing on the Truth Social platform, the President said that the attacker was “caught” and called for the event to continue. He also praised the Secret Service for acting “swiftly and bravely.”
“An evening of DC Secret Service and Law Enforcement did a great job. They took action quickly and boldly,” Trump wrote.
“The shooter has been caught and I have advised ‘LET THE SHOW CONTINUE’, but this will be entirely under the guidance of the Police Department. They will make a decision shortly.”
“Whatever that decision is, it will be very different from what we planned for the evening, and frankly we will have to do it again. President DONALD J. TRUMP.”
Secret Service spokesman Anthony Guglielmi said the President, the First Lady and all other Secret Service protectees are safe. He said one person, whose condition was unknown, was in custody.
President Trump left the venue after the suspected attack. “The First Lady, the Vice President, and all Cabinet members are in excellent condition,” he wrote on Truth Social.
He added that the event will be postponed and rescheduled within 30 days.
He will make a statement to the media shortly after 22:00 local time.
