King Charles’ upcoming US state visit will go ahead despite gunfire at a dinner attended by Donald Trump on Saturday night. Buckingham Palace confirmed that the King will travel to the US for a four-day visit later today as planned.
Gunshots were heard during the dinner held at the Hilton Hotel in Washington DC, and as a result, Trump and his wife Melania were thrown out of the building. Cole Allen, 31, was arrested at the scene and only one person, a law enforcement officer, was injured.
In a statement, Buckingham Palace said: “Following discussions on both sides of the Atlantic throughout the day, and acting on advice from the Government, we can confirm that Her Majesty’s State Visit will proceed as planned.
“The King and Queen are grateful to everyone who has worked quickly to ensure this remains the case and look forward to the visit starting tomorrow.”
